Maryland Terrapins National Signing Day 2015 is a Success

National Signing Day is a time where college coaches and programs find who they will have as “new blood” to help their team reach National Championship glory in 2015.

Recapping the Maryland Terrapins’ 2014 season: they had a good initial Big Ten Conference campaign at 7-5 overall in the regular season, and in Big Ten play they were at .500 with a 4-4 record. The Terps lost the Foster Farms Bowl to the Stanford Cardinals 45-21.

Here’s the rundown on how National Signing Day 2015 went for the Terps:

Quarvez Boulware, a 6’2 280 pound offensive lineman from Friendship Collegiate Academy announced his commitment to the Terps on WUSA9 Washington DC  the night before and was officially signed early in afternoon the next day. His top three options were the University of Maryland, University of Florida and Wake Forest. He is an important piece in the Terps’ attempt to beef up their offensive line, seeing as they are losing four seniors to graduation. His highlight film is here.

It will be interesting to see how he pairs with another freshman offensive linemen from Bishop McNamara High School, Damien Prince. Prince signed with Terps in 2014. He is another guy over 6 feet and under 300 pounds. At 286 pounds to be exact, he will be able to help the Terps succeed in both facets of the offensive game. Footwork and strength may need to improve but overall he’s a solid player. Take a look at his highlight film here.

Even though Boulware was the first recognized commitment in Maryland’s National Signing Day event, defensive lineman Oseh-lie Saine was signed early this morning. At 6’4 285 pounds, he’s a big body and welcome addition to a Terps team that is losing Andre Monroe and Keith Bowers to graduation and Darius Kilgo to the NFL. He will hopefully be able to help that defensive line be tough and clog passing and running lanes. His Highlight film is here.

The Terps were also able to snag a wide receiver from Philadelphia, D.J. Moore — a commitment that is unique, because the four star wide receiver built a relationship with Terrapins wide receivers coach Keenan McCardell. He fills a position that the Terps needed after losing Stefon Diggs and Deon Long. His highlight film is here.

The Terps then signed a three star wideout from Florida named Jahrvis Davenport. Adding two wideouts when the Terps have lost two cornerstones at that position is a great move. Davenport’s highlights are here.

Signing Day Wins and Losses

Win: Adam McLean was a big win for Maryland. The four star defensive lineman switched his commitment from Penn State to become a Terp. Hopefully he can be a staple for the defensive line moving forward. He can be that sparkplug and leader the d-line needs to be great. Check out his highlights here

Win: An interesting commitment came from two star linebacker Isaiah Davis, brother of Terps defensive back Sean Davis. That will be interesting to see how those two work together to help the defense make noise. I like the pair together so hopefully they can make something happen. His highlights here

Loss: Isaiah Prince committed and signed with Ohio State. The four star offensive lineman had Maryland amongst his three schools along with Alabama and Ohio State. Losing out on him might be a big loss, but maybe the other offensive linemen the Terps got will fill in nicely.

Loss: Austrian Robinson committed to Ole Miss. The three star defensive lineman recruit is the second best player in his state of New York.

All in all, despite losing out on two key recruits, the Terps gained a lot more than they lost and it will be interesting to see how the talent manifests itself during the 2015 season.
