The NFL season may be over but there are still plenty of local Maryland college sports to review.

Salisbury University Alumni Named NFL Head Coach

Salisbury University Athletics Hall of Fame member and 1994 graduate Dan Quinn was named the newest head coach of the Atlanta Falcons in the National Football League on Monday. He had spent the past two seasons as the Defensive Coordinator with the Seattle Seahawks. From 1989 to 1993 he recorded 145 tackles for Salisbury while playing the defensive line.

Maryland Women’s Basketball

The 5th-ranked Terrapins beats #20 Iowa to win their 13th consecutive game. Lexie Brown scored a season-high 26 points and Brionna Jones added a second half double-double to lead the Terps to the home win.

Hood College Athletics

Swimmers Dillon Marier and Ashley Griffin of women’s swimming are the Hood College Athletes of the Week for the week ending on February 1. Marier won two individual events and was part of a winning relay team in a conference victory over Lebanon Valley, 145-53, on January 31. Griffin won each event in which she swam against Lebanon Valley on January 31. She was also named the Middle Atlantic Conference Women’s Swimmer of the Week for the second week in a row

Goucher College Equestrian

The Goucher team achieved the best Winter Classic Tournament of Champions result in program history. They earned 26 points at the event and ended up taking third place overall with an average of 33.5 points. That total was only 0.5 points behind second place Mount Holyoke and 2.5 points back of champion Savannah Art & Design.

Washington College Soccer

Washington College assistant men’s soccer coach Jade Mesias was traded from the Major Arena Soccer League’s (MASL) Harrisburg Heat to the Syracuse Silver Knights. The postseason of the MASL ends right before the start of the non-traditional spring season, so he should not miss any action coaching the Shoreman.
