The Maryland Terrapin basketball team’s hard work, dedication and success has not come easy, but at 17-3 overall and 5-2 in Big Ten play after their 89-70 loss to the Indiana Hoosiers, the Terps are going to get some national attention. They’ll be featured on The Road to March Madness, which will be in the style of HBO’s Hard Knocks. The first episode will air February 17th, and the last episode will air after Selection Sunday (March 15th) according to CSN Baltimore’s Daniel Martin. It’s going to be shown on Tuesdays at 9 pm on Showtime.

This Terps will be featured with three other teams: Oklahoma Sooners, Wichita State Shockers and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. For fans of all the schools, this will be a great series to watch and see how the teams have grown and what they had to go through. For Terps fans, it will be very special given the attitude that people had with Maryland switching to a new conference and questioning how well they would perform.

They have definitely exceeded expectations and have given the Big Ten and the NCAA a team to pay attention to.

While they’re a great team, they do have their flaws. In the game against Indiana, Maryland’s defense got exposed on the perimeter for 15 three-point shots, and four of Indiana’s starting five players had double-figure point totals. Junior guard Kevin “Yogi” Ferrell led the way with 24 points, five assists and two rebounds.

Indiana’s defense held Melo Trimble and Jake Layman to 23 combined points, and Dez Wells only had nine points for the entire game. It’s safe to say Indiana was ready for a hot Terrapins team, as the Terps received a wake up call in Bloomington.

Despite the loss they are 5-2 in conference play, holding down the third spot in the conference.

They have a chance to move up the standings against the Northwestern Wildcats tonight at 7:30 in the Xfinity Center.  Then, on Thursday, they’ll play the Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus. Those are two opportunities for the team to keep the wins coming.

All in all, this Maryland Terrapin team has the ability to go far in the NCAA tournament, and selection sunday on March 15th will be an interesting day to see where they stand in the seeding process. Right now, I’m predicting they’ll be between the third and fifth seed come NCAA tournament time unless they can keep winning and their AP ranking keeps getting better.
