Maryland Terrapins Should Be Top-10 in AP Rankings
The new AP rankings came out today and the Maryland Terrapins only moved up one spot, from 12 to the 11th spot.
I for one believe they are deserving of a top-10 ranking given their recent victories against Minnesota, Michigan State, and Oklahoma State, in addition to their 2-0 record in the Big Ten. It’s still early, but this team deserves a top-10 ranking given the adversity they had to go through due to injuries. Having senior forward Evan Smotrycz and senior guard Dez Wells off the floor for some time, the Terps still found a way to win.
The Terps had freshman guard Melo Trimble and junior forward Jake Layman to thank for their great start, because those two were the driving force pushing the Terps to the tough wins they got at the Comcast Center.

Layman has had double-digit point totals every game this season except for the Michigan State game, in which he had only four points. He’s had two double-doubles this season against the Oakland Golden Grizzlies and Oklahoma State Cowboys.
Melo Trimble, the freshman sensation that he is, has had double figure games all season and four games in which he’s gotten to the free throw line more than 10 times. He has been a great addition to the team and may be a great player for this team for the next four years.
The addition of Dezmine Wells coming back from injury makes this team even more dangerous, and the team has played like it of late.
The Terps honestly have a big three: Melo Trimble, Jake Layman, and Dezmine Wells. Those three can help the Terps go far and have done so up to this point in this season. The Terps not getting the nod for a top-10 ranking is disrespectful. They have proven thus far that a change to a new conference doesn’t change their game, and they can still be dominant.
At the very least they should have gotten the ninth spot after their big wins against Michigan State and Minnesota because of the way they played.
The Terps have Illinois Illini and Purdue Boilermakers coming up this week, so they have their opportunity to get top-10 respect with wins in those games.
