OK there never will be a real rivalry between Goucher College and Towson University. One is a small Division III sports team and the other is a relatively large Division I team playing in one of the toughest mid major conferences. But it was nice to attend the first-ever basketball meeting between the two schools  on Wednesday at Towson’s SECU Arena.

The two schools are located only 1.2 miles apart in Towson, MD.

The game was a bit of a rout as Towson had five players score in double figures on the way to defeating Goucher by a score of 97 to 43.

Freshmen Byron Hawkins and Mike Morsell had 19 points and 13 points respectively for the Tigers.  Four McGlynn added 10 points and five rebounds. Also for Towson, John Davis had 11 points and 15 rebounds, Timajh Parker-Rivera added 13 points and 10 rebounds and Alex Gavrilovichad 10 rebounds.

Chris Outing led Goucher with 12 points and Troy DeShields added eight points and a pair of blocked shots.

Towson is now 5-1, while the Gophers fall to 0-5.
