The Division I Women’s basketball college programs of the Baltimore area have some truly special team. The Baltimore Wire’s tour of the area’s teams focuses on them this time.

No one will be surprised that the University of Maryland is the top women’s team in the state as they are frankly one of the best in the land. They did lose their major scorer in Alyssa Thomas, but return Lexie Brown, Shatori Walker-Kimbrough  and Brionna Jones. Expect them to do well in their first year in the Big Ten Conference. Another Final Four run is a distinct possibility.

After a trip to the Women’s National Invitation Tournament last year, Mount St. Mary’s looks primed for a good season. The loss of Sydney Henderson will be offset by the play of returner Jacqueline Brewer.

Coppin State went to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference title game last year but lost some players. Junior forward Janelle Lane looks to keep the ship upright.

Navy also played in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament last year but lost many starters. They look to be pretty young and inexperienced.
