Towson Women’s Basketball To Host Preseason WNIT Game

Towson Women’s Basketball will continue their play in the Preseason Women’s National Invitation Tournament on Friday November 21, 2014.

The Tigers lost at the Penn State Nittany Lions by a score of 71-64 on Friday, November 14 in the first round of the tournament. Fortunately they have been selected to host one of the consolation brackets for the tournament.

Towson will host Rider on Friday and then play either St. Francis Brooklyn or the University of North Dakota the next day depending on results. All four teams will play their games at Towson’s SECU Arena.

The Tigers have been led so far by junior guard Dominique Johnson who scored 32 points (6 three pointers) and Jordyn Smith with nine rebounds in the Penn State game. The Rider Broncs lost their opener to Seton Hall, 66-47. Rider’s Robin Perkins scored 16 points to go along with five rebounds while Julia Duggan added 12 rebounds.

On Friday, St. Francis Brooklyn will play the University of  North Dakota at 4 pm before the Towson/Rider game at 6:30 pm. On Saturday, the losers of Friday’s games will face off at 4 pm before the Friday’s winners play at 6:30 pm. Tickets for each day range from $8 to $12.

The University of North Dakota lost to Colorado while St. Francis Brooklyn lost to Albany in their respective first round games of the Preseason WNIT.

The 2013 winner of the Preseason Women’s National Invitation Tournament  was the Louisville Cardinals who went on to lose to the Maryland Terrapins in the Elite Eight.
