The Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference has some very strong basketball teams year in and year out. Fifteen colleges (CCBC / Essex players play on the CCBC / Dundalk  team) across the state compete for regular season honors followed by a postseason conference tournament.

NJCAA has a division structure so that although these teams play together as a conference, postseason national tournaments are at differing levels. Last year Garrett played in the NJCAA Division II National Championship Tournament in Danville, IL and Baltimore City lost to Westchester in the District III Championship that would have gotten them to the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament in Hutchinson, KS.
