The Baltimore Orioles secured Hundley from the San Diego Padres on May 24th for Troy Patton, and Nick became a sort of personal catcher for Chris Tillman. He played in a total of 50 games.
Over those games he batted .233, which is just slightly below his career average of .238. Along the way he hit four doubles and five home runs among his 37 base hits.
The age 31 veteran catcher gave the Orioles a nice additional option behind the plate to alternate to some extent with Caleb Joseph.
Hundley has likely played his final game with the Orioles as he has a $5-million option for 2015 that is surely too rich for the O’s and their expanding budget and payroll. It is imaginable that he could somehow return for a lesser number if unable to catch on somewhere else. He certainly enjoyed his experience in the Baltimore clubhouse and was an asset for the role he played.
