Baltimore Ravens: Stand Up Fans for a Stand Up Team

There is nothing more special than having a strong foundation built off of love and support. When you have that, the loyalty shared is priceless. And that is what the city of Baltimore offers to the Baltimore Ravens.

Baltimore is a football city that is dedicated and loyal to the Ravens. And Baltimoreans go above and beyond during the football season to show it.

From people detailing their cars in black and purple paint to look like a Ravens jersey, to having stores in malls dedicated to selling only Ravens merchandise, to having purple Friday, Baltimore always finds ways to support its team.

And my all-time favorite is when the city “paints the town purple.”

This is a festive event in the city where the city and county government, Ravens staff including cheerleaders, office staff, and the team mascot come together to feel the city with the Ravens spirit.

For example, they get together and place the Ravens’ logo and mantra at a bunch of different places throughout the city. Places include schools, hospitals, and libraries. And they also turn the street lights into purple lights throughout the city; mainly downtown in the heart of the city.

Lance Franklin, a Maryland state employee, who recently moved to Baltimore from Virginia, shared his experience living in Baltimore and becoming a part of “Ravens Nation”.

When asked what was his favorite part of support that the city give to their home team he said, “I love on Fridays that we have the option to wear purple, but the option is almost like a requirement.”

Coming from Virginia, a state that does not even have a football team, it’s pretty exciting to see the love that Baltimore gives to their football team, said Franklin.

And it is important that Baltimoreans continue to give this type of morale to the Ravens! Because home is where the heart is.

Not only do these athletes sacrifice their bodies physically, but they give up much more important things. Important things like time away from their families while they are they are traveling to entertain us.

So if they are winning or losing, show support for your team because they don’t just play for a paycheck. They play for their city!
