With almost half of the college football season in the books, the Maryland Terrapins are looking good so far after a 37-15 rout of the Indiana Hoosiers in Memorial Stadium in Bloomington. They are now 4-1 with their only loss coming at the hands of the West Virginia Mountaineers (40-37). This first conference win was a stat stuffer for a Terrapins offense that is proving to be a lethal force passing the ball. Junior Wide Receiver Steffon Diggs was a force to be reckoned with in this game and had six catches for 112 yards.
Diggs is moving up the record books with this latest stat line and has now passed Gullian Gary for seventh all-time in receptions in Maryland school history with 117 career receptions. He also has all-time bests in career yards (1,832) and touchdowns (11), being tied with former Maryland Wide Receivers Marcus Badgett and Barry Johnson at the seventh spot. Senior Wide Receiver Deon Long pitched in as well in the century mark category with 10 receptions and 108 yards.
On the defensive side for the Terps, the beast that was unleashed on the Hoosiers offense was a senior linebacker by the name of Cole Farrand who had 19 tackles in this game. A guy with a game like that deserves the game ball. The defense as a whole played tremendously well, holding Indiana to 15 points, their lowest point total and total offense (332 yards).
What’s important to understand here is this: Maryland has a tough road ahead of them. The Big Ten Conference is not a pushover. They play all conference opponents for the rest of the season, including: Ohio State Buckeyes, Iowa Hawkeyes and Wisconsin Badgers. Those games are all in the next three weeks.
Getting their first win Big Ten win is a great thing for the Maryland Terrapins, but they need to keep winning and show the rest of NCAA and Big Ten that they have arrived and are here to stay.
