I’m sure by number three at the latest you probably had a good idea of who made top two. A Louisiana native and future Hall of Famer, Ed Reed is arguably the best to ever play the safety position.
In the modern-day pass heavy game, Reed redefined the safety position and was the prototypical ballhawk. Attending the University of Miami and selected 24th overall in the 2002 NFL Draft, Reed has beautifully denied many touchdown passes and laid many bone-crushing hits.
He’s been selected to the Pro Bowl nine times, All Pro eight times, 2004 Defensive Player of the Year, 64 career interceptions, and 1,590 career interception return yards (NFL record). But most importantly, Ed finally hoisted the Lombardi following Super Bowl 47. Ed, Louisiana loves you and you’re a shoo-in on my list.
