West Virginia has the overall lead in the series which stands at 26-22-2. But, no Terp or Mountaineer fan would be to quick to forget last years meeting in Baltimore where Maryland won 37-0 in the rain.
The border-battle heads back to College Park this year and both teams are looking for a win and bragging rights.
Maryland comes into this game averaging 38.0 points per game.
The Terps offense will look to quarterback C.J. Brown to lead them against a very good opponent. Brown has thrown and run for three touchdowns through the first two games. He has seemed to struggle a little getting in a rhythm throwing the ball this season but with targets like Stefon Diggs and Deon Long, it is only a matter of time before things start to click.
Maryland’s defense through two games ranks 16th in the nation for points allowed (16.0).
The Terps need to get to the Clint Trickett early and put some pressure on him while not allowing the big plays down field. West Virginia is ranked 11th in the nation in passing yards per game with 360 through their first two games.
This game is a border-battle rivalry but it also will be a game where Maryland helps celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Star-Spangled Banner.
Under Armour is outfitting Maryland in “Star Spangled” uniforms to help commemorate the occasion. Below are some pictures as well as the Terps opening video which will be a bit different today.
After a good showing from fans in Maryland’s first game against JMU, I expect an even better representation today against West Virginia at Byrd Stadium.
With the help of the fans, Maryland should be able to leave this game with a win in a close competition.
