The Baltimore Orioles Have Clinched Their Third Straight Winning Season

After the 9-7 victory against the Cincinnati Reds Thursday night, the Baltimore Orioles didn’t only complete the three-game sweep and a 9-2 home stand, but they picked up their 82nd win. I’m sure that 95 percent of you know why that is a significant number.
It symbolizes that you are a winning team. This is the third straight year in which the O’s picked up their 82nd win at some point in the season, which means that for three straight years, the Orioles have been a winning team. Let me repeat that: For three straight years, the Orioles have been a winning baseball team. The same team that could only come remotely close to .500 on three occasions in 14 years has been a winning club for three straight seasons. Wow.

Not only have the O’s clinched a third-straight winning season, but they also maintain the second to best record in baseball five days into September. They currently hold a record of 82-57, and for those that know a little math, that is 25 games over .500. In 2012, when the Orioles had that magical run in which they won 16 straight extra-inning games and several one-run games, they ended the year 93-69 – 24 games over the .500 mark. This means that the Orioles are on pace to finish the year with a better record than they have had in 17 years.
I could go on a rant about how the Orioles have made their way from the bottom to the top in the blink of an eye, but that’s not what this is about.
The Baltimore Orioles are a winning ball club, and a good one at that. With 23 games remaining in the season, the Orioles’ magic number to win the division is currently 15, as they hold a 9.5-game lead on the second place team. That is absolutely incredible and it makes up the biggest division lead in baseball.
The hitting has had its moments,
, but also coming through with some clutch hits in late-game situations. However, the pitching has performed way above expectations. It has really been a fantastic season here in Baltimore. It has been one that the team has enjoyed immensely, as well as the fans.
With over ten sellouts of Camden Yards this year, those fans will continue to cheer on the O’s throughout September and October, even as we approach the start of the Baltimore Ravens season. It should be a fun and exciting ride, as we get to watch the Orioles make a run at their first World Series championship in 31 years.
