In 2013, Torrey Smith became the first Ravens draft pick to have 1,000 receiving yards. With that monkey off the team’s back, there is reason for optimism in the receiving corps for what seems like the first time in franchise history.

I exaggerate slightly (obviously Derek Mason and Anquan Boldin led some decent receiving corps in their days), but this group has a legitimate claim to being the best in franchise history.

There is a perfect blend of guys here, from the speed of Torrey and Jacoby Jones to the toughness of Steve Smith to the high upside young talent of Marlon Brown, Michael Campanaro, Kamar Aiken and Deonte Thompson.

Flacco already has great chemistry with Steve Smith, which is great news. He should challenge Torrey for the team lead in receptions, while the reduced pressure should help Torrey become a much more efficient receiver.

Best of all, Gary Kubiak’s system should allow the dynamic likes of Torrey and Jones to get the ball in space and make some breathtaking plays.

Despite lacking a top-ten receiver, this is among the deepest groups in the NFL. Flacco has the weapons to succeed again, which should make this offense dangerous.
