RIGHT FIELD (+2 = Definitely Improved)
YEAR | AVG | OBP | 2B | HR | RBI |
75% of 2014 | .296 | .357 | 27 | 13 | 43 |
100% of 2013 | .275 | .328 | 25 | 10 | 60 |
It was difficult in the offseason to see Nick Markakis so cruelly written off by many Orioles fans as a merely average-at-best spray hitter. Yes, he had a very poor end of 2013, as the injuries and surgeries took a toll.
But Markakis went after the offseason with a training vengeance and came into camp in possibly the best shape of his life.
The result for the Orioles is 20 points higher on the average with expanded power numbers. The RBIs are only down because Nick is hitting daily at the top of the order.
Markakis is #1 in the American League in plate appearances and at-bats, and is #3 in total base hits.
