Baltimore Orioles Offense – A Position by Position Review

SUMMARY OF OFFENSIVE PRODUCTION (RELATIVELY THE SAME)
Considering the pluses and minuses, the Baltimore Orioles through the first 75% of 2014 rate an even “relatively the same” status as 2013. Though second base was not improved, both left field and designated hitter were significantly enhanced. However, this is offset by the corner infield positions particularly.
Another hope for the Orioles was to do something to improve on base percentage. Honestly, the new players who were secured are not particularly adept at this, and therefore the number is also virtually the same as 2013 at .312. This ranks 12th in the American League.
However, after 123 games, the Orioles in 2014 stand four games better with a record of 71-52. They were 67-56 at this same point in 2013 … though they would finish from that point forward with the poor record of 18-21.
So what accounts for the difference?
It is the pitching. They are sixth in the league in overall ERA at 3.68, and the bullpen is #4 in the league with a 3.15 ERA.
