3. Receivers – Long Showed He’s Ready to Go

A little over a week ago, Coach Edsall criticized wide receiver Deon Long for how he was practicing.

"“Deon’s got to get a lot better. I’m not happy with the way Deon is practicing right now,” Maryland Coach Randy Edsall said before Wednesday’s session. “He’s got to do a better job of finishing on every play, and he’s got to be more exact with everything that he’s doing.”"

Forward to Saturday’s scrimmage — Long let his coaches and the fans know that he is back and ready to play.

Long caught eight passes for 136 yards and found the end zone once on a 53-yard score.

The other receiver, who had the longest line during the autograph session after the scrimmage, played with the second-team offense. Stefon Diggs had a quite day with 5 catches for 30 yards. Don’t expect Diggs to be second-string when the season begins.

Both Diggs and Long are one of the top receiving duo’s in the Big Ten, if not the county.

Due to both receivers having their season cut short by broken legs in the same game, this tandem has not gotten quite the hype they deserve; but once the season begins, you can be sure Diggs and Long will be household names in the Big Ten and the NCAA.
