You had to see this name coming. It has boggled my mind for years why David Price has been thrown into trade rumors every single year; what has he done wrong? He has been the best pitcher in the American League ever since coming into the league and the rumors certainly haven’t affected him. In fact, they seem to motivate him, as he just gets better, and better, and better.
He is a guy that everyone would want on their team. Pitching in the tough AL East, he has pitched ERA’s of under 2.75 twice in his six-year career and owns a career ERA of 3.20. He has recorded over 200 strikeouts two times. He went 19-6 in 2010 and 20-5 in 2012. The Rays would not have made the playoffs all those years if it wasn’t for him.
The problem with this theory though is the same as Zobrist. The Rays probably won’t trade their prized possession to another AL East rival. Even without that problem, Price’s name has been put out there repeatedly and nothing has been done; and I think that will continue. This year will be just like every other year, it will come down to the last hour before we hit the deadline; we will be waiting for something to happen, and nothing will happen, but it’s just something to think about.
