This would obviously be a game-changer if it ever happened. I’m not here trying to convince you that the Orioles have a chance of acquiring Utley, but it looks like the team is trying to find a second baseman and his name has come up quite a bit. However, it is unlikely that the 35-year-old will waive his 10-and-5 rights that allow him to veto any trade to another team.

Let’s keep this theoretical though; what would it mean to the team if Utley did come to Baltimore? First off, he would be put straight into the number two spot as the Orioles are searching to put someone there and he would the perfect fit. Utley has been a part of what used to be one of the best lineups in baseball — featuring Ryan Howard and Jimmy Rollins. He won a World Series Championship with the Phillies in 2008, so that’s always a good thing to have on your team.

He has hit over 30 home runs in his 12-year career, which is extremely hard to come by at the second base position. He has a .288 career average with 225 home runs. Even at the age of 35 he is still putting up great numbers posting an average of .293 with eight home runs and 46 RBIs through the first 91 games of the 2014 season. Although the thought of the O’s landing him seems far-fetched, just think how cool it would be to have Chase Utley in Baltimore.
