Maggie Sullivan finished her high school career at Boonsboro with a total of eight Maryland State Track Championships, dating back to her freshman year when she won the 300 hurdles in division 1A with a time of 46.88.

“That first one was really unexpected,” Sullivan said. “But it got kinda everything started for track.”

Actually, it was very much in the cards, in the genes, in the stars or whatever for Maggie to end up on a track. Her father, a local physician, was a track athlete at Harvard University where he high-jumped 7’0”. And her mother was a volleyball player at the University of Delaware.

“My father said while I was growing up, ‘You can do whatever sport you want, but when you get to high school, you’ll do track.’” she said laughingly. “No really, he did not push me too hard, but he is my coach now.”

“I’ve finally stopped throwing up at practices this year!”

After the freshman state title, her father sought to put it into perspective and plant a larger vision. “I was a state champ already, and my dad said, ‘You’re not even really in shape yet!’ she recalled.  “Well, that has changed; I’ve finally stopped throwing up at practices this year!”

Sullivan will be taking her hurdling talents to The College of William and Mary, where she will pursue studies in the field of neuroscience.

Along with other Boonsboro teammates, Maggie will be competing in the Nike National Track and Field Meet in Greensboro next weekend. She will be running the 100 hurdles and the longer 400 intermediate hurdles races.
