Mount St. Mary’s is Maryland’s lone representative in the 2014 men’s NCAA tournament

Mount St. Mary’s will look to represent Maryland in NCAA Tournament.
The school is often referred to as The Mount.
With their berth in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament, the Mountaineers will look to reach the top of the basketball mountain as a Cinderella in the “big dance”.
Mount St. Mary’s is located in Fredrick County, Maryland in the city of Emmitsburg. Maryland is known more for the big city schools around Baltimore, but since none of the other Division One programs in the state made it to the big dance, the Old-Line state will be represented by a Catholic University team that is living on a prayer. (Not to mention that they have a Christian for a coach – Jamion Christian, that is!)
After finishing the season with a record of 13-16, the Mount men were not likely headed anywhere for the postseason.
But, that’s why they call it March Madness.
The Mountaineers swept their way through the Northeast Conference tournament to punch their ticket into the NCAA Tournament. They earned a #16 seed and will play in the first-round (play-in game) against Albany (18-14) in Dayton, Ohio on Tuesday, March 18th.
This team is no stranger to the big dogs of the NCAA. The Mount men faced both Michigan State and Villanova in the regular season.
If they manage to win against Albany, they will have to face the #1 seeded Florida Gators in the second round. Maybe the experience they got against now #2 and #4 seeds in the tournament will give them a chance to bust some brackets.
It could happen, right?
