Maryland State Indoor Track records continued to fall for the second consecutive day this past week as the four divisions of the MPSSAA gathered in Landover for the annual meet. Multiple records were set in division 2A on Monday, and the trend continued as the larger schools convened on Tuesday.

3A Girls Summary

The closest of all eight boys and girls meets was the 3A girls where Huntingtown narrowly defeated Milford Mill by a score of 67.5 to 67. The margin for Huntingtown going into the final race was a mere 2.5 points. The Milford Mill girls crushed the previous 3A record in the 1600 by posting a blazing 3:56.03 – more than four seconds under the previous best by Douglas in 2005. But the Huntingtown girls managed a second-place position in the race by one second over Seneca Valley in third, thus securing the team victory. The extra half-point for Huntingtown was by freshman Harleigh White who tied for sixth in the high jump.

An all-time Maryland state record in the pole vault was set by Olivia Gruver of Franklin High School at 13’ even. It broke the previous mark of 12’7” which was set 24 hours earlier by Jackie McNulty of Oakdale in the 2A meet (the featured picture on our post from that contest).

Other 3A records were set by Shania Collins of Huntingtown in the 300-meter run at 39.29 and by Emily Mulhern of Urbana in the 3200 with a record-crushing time of 10:59. This broke a 20-year-old record of 11:23 by Sally Glynn of Walter Johnson HS.
