Baltimore Orioles manager Buck Showalter doesn’t get ejected often. Although when he does, he gets his monies worth.

To date, William Nathaniel “Buck” Showalter has managed 1,047 games for the Baltimore Orioles. His record stands at 560-487. Of those 1,047, Buck’s gotten the heave-ho just 13 times.

The reasoning behind this article is due to Buck’s challenge in the fourth inning of last night’s game versus the Tampa Bay Rays.

With Ubaldo Jiménez on the mound, Shane Peterson doubled into the right field corner. Initially, it appeared as if it was a well-placed ball, just inside the line. However, the replay showed otherwise.

Upon closer review, there was a clear outline of a dirt mark just to the right of the first base-side line, indicating a foul ball. Buck Showalter challenged the call on the field of a fair ball.

He lost.

The Rays scored two runs on that double and took a 3-to-1 lead at the time.

Many fans wanted Buck to argue, or even walk down the line with an umpire and show them the mark in the dirt. That probably would’ve led to ejection number 14.

And so, I started thinking.

What are Buck Showalter’s most memorable ejections in his time in Baltimore?

Let’s take a look.

5. June 21, 2013, @ Toronto Blue Jays

Toronto Blue Jays starter R.A. Dickey delivered a 2-1 pitch to Chris Davis, which was initially ruled a foul ball. As Davis was a quarter of the way down the first base line, home-plate umpire Angel Hernandez indicated foul ball.

As Dickey and manager John Gibbons questioned Hernandez as to why Davis started running, the umpires conferred and overturned the call.

Officially, it was ruled a strikeout, and out came Showalter.

After a very lengthy dispute near home plate, Buck was tossed, tallying his eighth ejection as the Baltimore Orioles manager.

Eventually, the Orioles fell victim to a walk-off single from Rajai Davis, scoring Maicer Izturis, and giving the Blue Jays a 7-to-6 victory.
