The Baltimore Ravens worked out Devin Hester today, but he is not the team’s answer for kick returns.

It was only a week ago that Devin Hester said for NFL teams to start calling his agent. Well, the Baltimore Ravens are one of those teams to call.

Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun reported earlier today that the Ravens hosted Hester for a workout.

As Zrebiec pointed out, we have no idea if the interest is real.

"“It isn’t immediately clear if the team is just doing its due diligence or has significant interest in immediately signing the NFL’s all-time leader in return touchdowns.”"

Hester does bring a skill to the Ravens that they do not have. A kick returner who is dynamic with the ball in his hands. It’s what he does not bring that makes the possibility of him coming to Baltimore unrealistic.

John Harbaugh likes guys that can contribute in multiple ways. By bringing in Hester, it takes a roster spot away from another running back or receiver making the team. There is no need for a specialist that cannot help the Ravens offensively or defensively.

Harbaugh does have reason to be concerned about his return game as Michael Campanaro bobbled and fumbled a kickoff in the preseason finale against the New Orleans Saints. But again, Campanaro can help the Ravens on offense. Hester is just a one-trick pony.

We are already on the record of saying that the Ravens should stay away from Hester. It’s hard to see Harbaugh giving up on Campanaro or another receiver on the bubble for a kick returner. Is it worth keeping a player on the roster that might touch the ball a few times a game over a player that can contribute on offense? The answer is no.

Yes, Devin Hester is the best kick returner in the history of the NFL. It’s also been some time since he was feared around the league. The Ravens need to stick with Campanaro and forget about Hester.
