The Baltimore Ravens have waived sixth-round pick and former Navy quarterback Keenan Reynolds.

It’s difficult to make the jump from college to the pros. It’s even more difficult when you are forced to learn a new position.

Former Navy quarterback Keenan Reynolds was trying to make the switch to wide receiver, but the transition did not going according to plan. He is being waived by the Baltimore Ravens, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com

It’s not shocking that the Ravens are not placing the all-time leader in NCAA touchdowns on waivers. They are hopeful that Reynolds passes through waivers and the team can add him to the practice squad.

As Rapoport pointed out, the news that Devin Hester was in for a work out made it likely that Reynolds was expendable. Baltimore was hopeful that Reynolds would be able to contribute on special teams as he learned a new position, but he has failed to impress in the preseason.

The Ravens have plenty of talent at wide receiver with Steve Smith, Mike Wallace, Breshad Perriman and Kamar Aiken all on the team. They also have rookie Chris Moore, Michael Campanaro and Jeremy Butler all in the mix at wide out. With Reynolds’ lack of experience at receiver, he is the odd man out.

Reynolds posted just one catch during the preseason and was struggling throughout camp. Without being able to contribute on special teams, it’s no shock that the Ravens will not add them to their 53-man roster.

Reynolds finished his college career with 88 career touchdowns, a FBS record, and 4,559 rushing yards, a record for quarterbacks. He finished fifth in the voting for the Heisman Trophy last season.

It’s not the last we have seen of Reynolds in the NFL, but his stint in Baltimore could be coming to an end.
