The Baltimore Orioles are five days away from Opening Day, so here are the five biggest storylines of the 2016 offseason.

The Baltimore Orioles have had an uncharacteristic offseason where they spent nearly $280 million. The days of the fan base complaining about Peter Angelos not spending his money has come to an end. At least for now.

Surprisingly, there are some fans who are now saying Angelos has spent too much. That’s the beauty of sports. Everyone has their own opinions.

There were many uncertainties entering this offseason. Several key pieces were scheduled to hit free agency and it was believed that Uncle Pete was not going to spend all that money. The Orioles will miss Wei-Yin Chen, but feel that the addition of Yovani Gallardo will make up for his loss. The corner outfield positions are still up in the air with Gerardo Parra and Steve Pearce elsewhere.

Dan Duquette and Buck Showalter had a hand in how this all played out. They held on to locker room leaders by re-signing Chris Davis, Matt Wieters and Darren O’Day. Many have said that this clubhouse is one of a kind and the key to the recent success. The locker room remains in tact and each is one of the best at his position in baseball.

The 2016 offseason could go down as one of the most important in the Angelos era. The Orioles handed out the richest contract in franchise history. The payroll is at a record high after their aggressiveness in free agency. It will also be remembered for the player they did not get as well.

Here are the biggest storylines of the Orioles offseason.
