Baltimore Ravens: Week 6 Report Card

facebooktwitterreddit

It’s difficult to not make a reference to The League but the Baltimore Ravens 48-17 victory against the lowly Tampa Bay Buccaneers did seem much like a Taco bye week (sorry you didn’t get yours, Pete). The Ravens were to the Bucs what Michael Moore is to a ham sandwich: relentless with an insatiable appetite for conquest. It’s easy to get hyped up about a win against a lesser opponent, but hey it’s the NFL. Even the worst team is good and Baltimore is coming off a tough loss against one of the highest-ranked teams, so this does help.

Some of you may have noticed I didn’t post a week six preview for this game and that’s because I knew we had this one in the bag. No really, I did. I understand it’s easy for me to say that now but let’s be honest, Baltimore has a stacked roster and has been playing very well, even in their two losses. Now is not the time to hit the panic button.

  • Game ball goes to, surprise surprise, Joe Flacco. Our Super Bowl MVP made yet another case for why he should be recognized among the NFL elite quarterbacks as he torched Tampa Bay for 21-of-29 completions for 306 yards and five touchdowns. Flacco looked to be in his 2012 postseason mode and there was nothing the Bucks could do to stop him from piling up a 146 QBR. Torrey Smith, all I can say is “welcome back.” The Ravens’ stud receiver seemed absent this season until Sunday’s game, as he registered four catches for 51 yards and two touchdowns.

Steve Smith, I’ve been your biggest supporter all year and you haven’t let me down yet as you put in another solid performance of five receptions for 110 yards and a touchdown. The game was balanced on the ground as well with Justin Forsett and Bernard Pierce together combined for 143 yards and a touchdown.

    More from Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens defense looked equally good. Tampa Bay was utterly stifled the entire game and didn’t get on the scoreboard until the third quarter with a 17% on third-down conversions. Cornerback Jimmy Smith looks to be back in his usual form as he totaled five tackles and one interception. CJ Mosley, who is emerging as one of the premier linebackers in the league, led the team again this week with six tackles and two assists.

Sorry Baltimore, I give this performance a B+  and not to slight our Ravens in any way, but this is because this win came against one of the current worst teams in the NFL. But don’t get me wrong, as a Saints fanfad … well, I love seeing teams crush my division opponents. And as the Baltimore Ravens sit at a comfortable 4-2, we can look forward to next week as they host another one of my division rivals, Atlanta Falcons.
