Baltimore Ravens Promote Tight End Phillip Supernaw

The Baltimore Ravens have promoted tight end Phillip Supernaw to the active 53-man roster in the wake of Dennis Pitta‘s season-ending hip injury.

Pitta dislocated his hip for the second time in two years, which means that other players will have to step up at the tight end position. Supernaw was brought up for just that reason. The 24-year old came over to the Ravens after spending the last two seasons with the Houston Texans. He went undrafted and spent most of his time in Houston on the practice squad.

Yes, we have another former Texan pairing up with their former head coach – Gary Kubiak. There are four former Texans on the Ravens current roster: Gary Kubaiak (if you count him), Owen Daniels, Justin Forsett, and Supernaw.

Although he has limited playing time under his belt, he should know the system well, having played under Kubiak for a couple of years.

There are now three tight ends that could all receive snaps in-game. Two I mentioned before, and the other one is rookie Crockett Gillmore, who the Ravens selected in the third round of this past year’s draft. Both Supernaw and Gillmore recorded limited stats in the preseason, so fans don’t really know their abilities as of right now.

As it stands at the moment, there is no question that Owen Daniels will receive the bulk of the snaps at this position. I said it yesterday and will reiterate it.
