Baltimore Ravens Cut Deonte Thompson, Add Fitzgerald Toussaint

The Baltimore Ravens made a move on Saturday with a name that most fans know. Deonte Thompson has served as both a kick-return man and a wide receiver for the Ravens over the last three years, and he has been on the roster in each season. He, however, will not be on the Ravens roster as of September 20th.

Thompson has yet to participate in a game this season, but was still on the active 53-man roster. However, as of today, that is no longer a true statement.

Not only did the Ravens cut Thompson, but they also promoted rookie running back Fitzgerald Toussaint. It is the third time this season that the Ravens have promoted Toussaint from the practice squad to the 53-man roster. He was cut, promoted, cut, promoted, cut one more time; and now he has been promoted once again.

The difference this time is that he was promoted on Saturday, which is a day before the Ravens play. That means that he will see his first action of the season.

Just a week after the Ravens released starting running back Ray Rice, this move just makes sense. They have three running backs on the current roster – Bernard Pierce, Justin Forsett, and Lorenzo Taliaferro, so adding Fitz was a logical move.
