  • The Maryland Terrapins kick-off the 2014 season and their inaugural season as members in the Big Ten conference against James Madison University.

The Terps come into the season winning nine of their last 10 home openers, including four straight. Maryland leads the overall series against JMU, two wins to none.

    What to Watch For

    1. C.J. Brown will have a big day.

The sixth year senior looks primed to have a big year for the Terps. Last year, C.J. Brown became the first Maryland quarterback to throw for 2,000 or more yards (2,242) and rush for 500 or more yards (576) in a single season.

Brown will find the end zone multiple times through the air and on the ground. His experience and his wide receivers will help the Terps light up the scoreboard in what should be a easy win for Maryland.

    2. Diggs and Long are ready to shine.

After both of Maryland’s star wide receivers had their season cut short due to broken legs, they are back healthy and ready to show the Big Ten and the nation they are one of the best receiving duos in college football.

If Brown can find these two in open space, JMU will be seeing Diggs and Long all day long because they will be reading the backs of their uniform.

    3. The defense needs to prove themselves against a weaker opponent.

The Terps defense will likely look to pressure JMU quarterback Vad Lee all day long. Senior defensive lineman, Andre Monre looks to build off of his 9.5 sacks last season which was tied for 21st in the nation.

Big plays is what has killed the Terps over recent seasons. If Maryland can keep the ball in front of them and not allow big plays, their defense should be able to keep Maryland in games.
