  • The parking lot adjacent from the stadium slowly filled up with Maryland fans who were throwing footballs, playing corn hole and having a good time ahead of the scrimmage.

In front of the main gate, the fans began to amass as the 2:30pm gate opening time grew closer.

When the Terp Hosts said come on in, fans darted for the free t-shirts, posters and wrist bands.

But, one thing that was different were some of the phrases being used to welcome the fans. Phrases like, “Welcome to the Big Ten!” and “Who’s ready for some Big Ten football?!”.

If it hadn’t set in for fans yet in regards to the change of conference, it hit home like never before when walking into the gates of Byrd Stadium.

The “schedule posters” featured the Big Ten logo; there were Big Ten Network shirts being handed out and the biggest change was the three letters on the turf’s 25-yard lines.

Instead of ACC in red, the field now showcases B1G in all-white at the 25-yard lines.

The football team was there, the fans were there, and the only thing missing was an opposing team.

    Football season is almost here.

With that said, here are five takeaways from Saturday’s Fan Appreciation Day.
