Orioles Trade Rumors: O’s Contact Red Sox About Jon Lester

According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, many teams have contacted the Boston Red Sox about starting pitcher Jon Lester. Jon Morosi revealed that the Orioles have some interest in acquiring him.

Following the trade that sent Jake Peavy to San Francisco, the Red Sox appear to be in full-blown sell mode. They are also reportedly shopping John Lackey who is the team’s #2 pitcher in the rotation. Keep an eye out for the Los Angeles Dodgers, as they are certainly a possible landing spot for both of these players.

This could be the big arm that Orioles need. Although Lester might require them to give up a young prospect, he wouldn’t necessitate giving up nearly as much as would a guy like David Price. That being said, the Red Sox are in the same division as the Orioles, and intra-divisional trades are difficult to pull off.

The Orioles have already been rumored to have been looking at starting pitchers such as Ian Kennedy and Jorge De La Rosa, but Lester is a much more appealing name. Perhaps Miguel Gonzalez is involved in a deal here? It obviously wouldn’t be straight up, but maybe he is a part of the package.

The likelihood of this trade occurring isn’t very high, but it’s speculation and that’s where everything starts. However, if the Orioles do want to make a move for Lester, they are going to have to come up with a very appealing trade package.
