Last Four In

Keith Wenning, QB

The Ravens haven’t kept three quarterbacks on the roster since Joe Flacco came into the league in 2008. He has had one backup to work with, and for the last three years, it has been Tyrod Taylor. However, Taylor hasn’t quite shown the potential that the Ravens hoped he would in preseason and in his brief playing time. Honestly, they weren’t expecting him to be Tom Brady (he was drafted in the sixth round – the same round in which Brady was drafted), but they wanted him to be a solid backup QB and he hasn’t even been that. They consequently drafted Keith Wenning late in the 2014 draft, and I believe that he will stay on the roster due to Taylor’s productivity, or lack there of.

Justin Forsett, RB

The only reason — and I repeat, the only reason — that Forsett makes the roster is because of Rice‘s two-game suspension. Otherwise, there wouldn’t be enough room. Much like tight end, running back is a position that most teams don’t keep four guys around. The same goes for the Ravens as they have two third-round draft picks in Bernard Pierce and Lorenzo Taliaferro on the roster, and they aren’t going anywhere. Forsett might not even get too many carries in the first two weeks of the season either, but that’s the best he is going to get. We all remember this phrase – you get what you get and you don’t get upset.

Jeremy Butler, WR

Butler is one of my favorite players from this year’s rookie class. I made a case for him to make the roster earlier this month. The reason I like this guy so much is because he imposes a 6-foot-2, 218 pound figure that could potentially be a fantastic downfield target with size, strength, and leaping ability. However, it won’t be easy for him to make the cut as there are several other receivers hungry to make the team. Among them are the aforementioned Deonte Thompson, Maryland standout LaQuan Williams, and rookie Micheal Campanaro. Butler has been referred to as last years Marlon Brown a number of times, so that’s a good start. I’m rooting for him to make the roster and if he does, I don’t think the Ravens will regret their decision.

Kapron Lewis-Moore, DE

Lewis-Moore had a fantastic college career at Notre Dame where he lead the team in tackles among defensive lineman in two of his four years there. He was also named one of the four captains on the Irish squad prior to the 2012 season. After starting all 13 games and recording 40 tackles and six sacks in 2012, he suffered a very unfortunate torn ACL. This led to him dropping dramatically in the draft. He went from being a second or third round pick to being selected 200th overall in the 6th round of the 2013 draft. After missing the entire 2013 season, he is out to prove wrong all those teams that passed up on him.
