How Andre Johnson Can Impact The Ravens Without Trading For Him

facebooktwitterreddit

As reported earlier today by Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, Houston Texans number one wide receiver Andre Johnson has demanded a trade. According to Rapoport, there are four teams interested in trading for his services.

The Texans are reportedly not willing to trade him. This might call for a holdout, release, or they won’t have any choice and will just trade him.

Although the Ravens likely won’t be a suitor due to his expense, the team will still monitor this situation very closely. The reason being that he could be traded to another rival in the AFC.

Let’s just say he were to go to New England and join Tom Brady, that would drastically improve the Patriots’ chances of winning the AFC. He may also go to teams such as the Indianapolis Colts which would also elevate the competition. If Johnson were to be moved to the Cleveland Browns, this would impact the Ravens even more.

  • One might think that it would make sense for Johnson to come to Baltimore. After all, Ravens Offensive Coordinator Gary Kubiak coached Johnson in Houston for over seven years. However, the Ravens have already spent a lot of money on receivers this offseason including Steve Smith (three years, $11.5 million) and Jacoby Jones (four years, $14.5 million).

The Patriots and Browns may very well be two of the four teams that are interested in trading for the talented veteran. I think that at the conclusion of all this, Johnson will stay in Houston. However, until then, the speculation will continue; and it’s a situation that the Ravens should definitely look after whether they are interested in trading for him or not.
