The Maryland Terrapins have said goodbye to the ACC and are now officially a member of the Big Ten Conference.
Here’s what people from Maryland are saying about the B1G move.
”Joining the Big Ten Conference is a watershed moment for the University of Maryland. Membership in the Big Ten will ensure the financial vitality of Maryland athletics for decades to come and provide extensive opportunities in the CIC for collaborations with our peer AAU and flagship universities in education, research and innovation to boost the University of Maryland’s ascendancy in academic excellence.”
“The University of Maryland and Maryland athletics are excited to celebrate its new era in the Big Ten Conference. This is an outstanding conference comprised of flagship research universities and our new partners share our pursuit of both athletic and academic excellence. We are thrilled to join the Big Ten and look forward to officially beginning this next chapter.”
“When you look at the Big Ten Conference, they have done an outstanding job putting each school in great situations to succeed. We’ll have to make some new rivalries, but it is a great match for Maryland. The Big Ten Network reaches more than 60 million households nation wide and it will give all of our sports great exposure.”
“I have really strong Big Ten ties having coached in the conference. I’m thrilled about the fact that we’re going to be able to bring our Maryland name and brand and extend it to a broader audience, nationally and globally.”
“The Big Ten couldn’t be more proud to officially welcome the University of Maryland to the conference on July 1. President Wallace Loh, Kevin Anderson and the rest of the Maryland community have been great partners during the transition period, and we look forward to building a successful future together.”
“I’m excited to be part of the Big Ten. New conference, new opponents, new rivalries. But, one thing remains the same, WE ARE MARYLAND! Nothing will change that. Fear the Turtle!”
“I’d like to welcome Maryland to the Big Ten. Your standing as a distinguished academic institution with a tradition-rich athletic department is a great addition to our conference. For the fans, I know you will enjoy the intense yet respectful competition among the Big Ten schools. As a basketball program, we have had some memorable contests with Maryland, and I look for many more in the years to come.”
Now that the move is official as of today, Maryland fans don’t have to worry about the Carolina bias that is the ACC anymore.
Terrapin fans can be excited for what will prove to be a conference full of excitement, passion, and intense competition.
