Baltimore Raven’s running back Ray Rice held his apology press conference last week. By all accounts it did not go well. No one looked comfortable, especially his wife, and Ray’s words were not the best way to express his thoughts.

"“Sometimes, you will fail. But I won’t call myself a failure. A failure is not getting knocked down, it’s not getting up.”"

Is that really the terminology you want to use Ray?

This was only compounded by his lawyer who said in an interview with a New Jersey radio station:

"“The video shows–hypothetically speaking, now, hypothetically speaking–shows that Ray wasn’t the first person that hit and Ray was getting repeatedly hit, but just Ray hit harder, fired one back and hit harder.”"

Self defense against a woman may not be the best way to gain back one’s public image.

But Ravens fans need to relax and not worry about their player nor his playing ability. Here are some reasons:

  • No one else was in that elevator or has seen the video evidence of what happened in there. The only video seen was after the fact. Now, I believe some bad things happened and Ray Rice was probably to blame. But…….until I see that myself, laying blame on Ray is irresponsible. Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty?
  • Will Ray miss time due to suspension? Probably, but the Baltimore Ravens won games in 2o13 without a running game, so how could it be worse? Seriously.
  • People worry about his playing ability due to a sub-par 2013. Running backs do lose their talents very quickly in the NFL, but we have to wait to see if 2013 was due to injury and a poorly designed run scheme with the wrong personnel.

So fans…… just relax.

Please.

The team drafted a nice running back in Lorenzo Taliaferro and have some experience with Justin Forsett and Bernard Pierce.

And seriously how could it get worse than 2013??????
