Local soccer squad, the Baltimore Bohemians, play the Harrisburg City Islanders in the fourth round of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament. They got to the 4th round by defeating Icon FC, an amateur soccer team based in Montville, New Jersey that play in the Garden State Soccer League. That league, a United States Adult Soccer Association league,  is considered a fifth tier level of the American Soccer Pyramid.

The game against the City Islanders of the USL Pro league is set for Wednesday, May 28th at 5:30 PM at Calvert Hall College High School’s Paul Angelo Russo Stadium. The winner of that match plays the Philadelphia Union of Major League Soccer (MLS) later on in Chester, PA. The USL Pro League is considered a third tier level of the American Soccer Pyramid. The City Islanders are affiliated with the Union.

The Bohemians play in the USL Premier Development League (USL PDL), the fourth tier of the American Soccer Pyramid. The USL PDL is primarily comprised of collegiate level amateur players that play on professional caliber teams and organizations.

The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is a tournament open to all United States Soccer Federation affiliated teams, from amateur adult club teams to the professional clubs of the MLS. The MLS teams have generally dominated lately but the lowered tiered teams will occasionally provide some upsets along the way. In 2013, teams from the USL Pro and North American Soccer League (NASL) won some decisions over MLS squads. And in 2012 the Quarterfinals had 3 USL Pro teams make it that far, including the City Islanders. A cash prize of $250,000 is awarded to the winning team.
